The Games attract more than 800 transplant recipients from all over the country taking part in a range of events from swimming to track and field, tennis to bowling supported by family and friends and local people.

Bill MacLeod, Senior Partner at PwC Newcastle, said: “As a firm we supported the Games when they were hosted in Sheffield in 2013 with our staff raising money and taking part in the donor run. Our Newcastle office is excited to have the chance to support the games when they are hosted in the region.

“We are proud to be involved in the games which will see local businesses, charities and local people coming together to take part in this fantastic four day event. We are sponsoring the children’s tug of war, giving our staff the opportunity to volunteer and encouraging them to take part in the donor run. We want to play our part and support where we can to spread the key messages of the benefits of transplantation and the encouragement for people to register onto the NHS Organ Donor register.”

North East businessman and Chair of the Local Organising Committee for The Games, Graham Wylie, said: “This year’s British Transplant Games will see athletes, young and old, compete in celebration of their amazing journeys and the transformational health benefits of organ transplantation. To have one of the North East’s major businesses back the Games by sponsoring the Children’s tug of war is truly fantastic, and I can’t thank the team at PwC enough for getting behind the NewcastleGateshead British Transplant Games.”

The Westfield Health British Transplant Games NewcastleGateshead 2015 is one of the largest annual multi-sports events in the United Kingdom. The Games will be hosted across NewcastleGateshead 30 July-02 August 2015. The British Transplant Games are organised by the charity Transplant Sport. The four day event celebrates the many incredible achievements of transplant athletes, and highlights not just the benefits of transplantation, but the desperate need for organ donors in the North East and across the UK.

Every 10 minutes, somebody’s name gets added to the donor waiting list whilst three people die every day because they can’t get the organ they need. In the North East alone there are currently more than 300 people waiting for transplants.
