Now in its 45th year, the Westfield Health British Transplant Games, the flagship event of Transplant Sport, is coming to Coventry in just 100 days’ time. The Games aim to demonstrate the benefits of transplantation and encourage transplant patients to regain fitness, all whilst increasing public awareness of the ongoing need for people to register and share their organ donation decision. Coventry will host one of the UK’s biggest multi-sport festivals in various venues across Coventry from 27th July – 30th July 2023. With 24+ sporting events, the Games is expected to attract around 2,500 participants from transplant athletes, family, friends, and donors to the city. Currently there are over 1,500 participants registered to take part in the British transplant Games this summer.
Currently across the UK around 7,000 people, including 200 children, are waiting for an organ transplant. Every day in the UK, someone still dies in need of an organ transplant because there aren’t enough organ donors.
