Ben Hastings, 28, Solihull

Ben was fit and healthy and woke up one day and had caught an unknown incurable infection. Ben was only 25 at the time, the attack killed his liver in just 4-6 weeks.

This rare condition only affects about 30 people in the UK each year. At his illest, Ben was the 5th illest person in the UK for liver related problems and was given two weeks to live.

After being in and out of ICU, Ben was placed on the transplant list at 5pm on Friday and had his liver transplant at 6am the following day.

With only a few complications Ben has been lucky enough to return to full health and competed in the British games in 2022 for the first time and competed in the football at the European games this year too.
