Welcome to Transplant Active

We are delighted to introduce you to Transplant Active, the new face and direction of Transplant Sport.

THE BRAND SEEKS TO:

Empower transplant recipients to optimise their gift of life through an active lifestyle.

Demonstrate the life changing and saving impact of organ transplantation.

Raise awareness about the transformative power of organ donation.

Currently we reach through our events and membership less than 3% of transplant recipients in Great Britain and we believe many more transplant recipients, donor families and living donors could benefit from active engagement with our transplant family.

We recognise that many may not participate in sport but would benefit from leading an active lifestyle. Through our network of local Transplant Teams across Great Britain we would like to encourage new members to come together to share the incredible camaraderie and peer support that our events provide.

For some this could be a couch to 5K moment, and the Oxford Team launched last year a campaign to facilitate a monthly Transplant Active group in a Parkrun within our region. Here is an example of the first of these shared events (image) and we seek to challenge Transplant Active Teams across Great Britain to facilitate similar Parkrun opportunities.

We believe we can actively engage many more from the Transplant community to build on our tremendous success so far. It could be a Transplant Active local ramble; wild swim; leisurely cycle; dog walk or for some joining a Transplant Active football team; running a half marathon; climbing the 3 peaks. There can be countless opportunities for all through sharing the gift of life and at the same time raising awareness about the power of organ donation across Great Britain.

So welcome to Transplant Active; help us activate GB's Transplant Family!

History

Transplant Sport was founded in 1978 by Maurice Slapak CBE, Consultant Surgeon, Patron, who brought together his patients and other transplant recipients to hold the first Transplant Games in Portsmouth in 1978.

Since then, Transplant Sport has grown to become the largest national charity promoting activity post-transplant and the organ donor register.

We host the British Transplant Games every year and participants of all ages and ability enjoy taking part in over 24 different sports/activities. All have received a lifesaving transplant and celebrate their gift of life together. Some of our very sporty members also compete at the World Transplant Games for Team GB.

We want to encourage all transplant recipients to get active and be healthy whilst promoting organ donation so we try and support a range of annual satellite events/activities such as Volleyball, Racquets, Golf, and the Kendall Kids Weekend. However, we do rely upon our members to help deliver these events.

Fundraising

Please let us know about your fundraising and we’ll help promote your activities.

Coming Soon

With our ambitious plans to encourage as many transplant recipients as possible to keep active and promote organ donation, fundraising is essential. Every penny donated works hard to support our members as they keep active post transplant. What better way to show the difference life saving organ donation makes than transplant recipients demonstrating the difference it has made.

If you are fundraising on behalf of The Westfield Health British Transplant Games 2024 then please contact Sue Burton for further information.
